We were sick of it.

We bought the massive, fold-out steel grates. We hauled the clumsy charcoal boxes. We spent 45 minutes trying to scrub soot off a piece of metal we paid $80 for. We compromised on flavor, we wasted time, and we spent more time cleaning than actually grilling.
